Hey folks we’ll work on getting a high resolution photo up here real soon
Gail Billingsly was my 4th grade teacher in 1985 and Mrs. Berlinger for 3rd grade the year before. They were both the most horrible woman and teachers I had ever encountered in my school days and had left a huge scarring impact on me during my childhood. Ms. Billingsly would give hours per hours of homework and would scream and belittle me I front of everyone in the whole class because I had a problem with math. Mrs Berlinger would do the same except she would sit me in front of the class and call me stupid for not under standing math and had the other children join in. She would also call me fat and comment on my home made lunches because she felt they were too Italian and too much for me to consume. Mrs. Billingsly would eat her mustard and cheese sandwiches while she sat and graded my papers and spat her remainings while she screamed at me for not getting math equations right, then would have to go on a smoke break because I was stressing her out (her pack of Marlboro Reds were plain out in open view right on her desk, mind you).
I don’t know how these woman became teachers or got away with the things that they did, but I am glad that I had finally came out to tell this finally. They probably either retired or maybe even dead by now and perhaps this is not the first time you’ve heard this before, but those 2 woman should be stripped for their teacher of the year rewards because they were anything but that! They were the reason why we moved and I had to go for counseling because of what they both bestowed upon me. The reason why I’m coming out forward today about this is that I am writing a piece on teachers and what kids stays in the classroom and what every parent should now as we’ll as the school boards.
Hey guys, Sue Esch here. I was also in Mrs. Billingsley’s class but was out sick with an injury when this class photo was taken…just so you know. 😉 Must confess that she was also my least favorite teacher, but Mr. Appelbaum rocked in 5th grade! His Tom Sawyer Day was one of the highlights of my Roaring Brook School memories! HE was a WONDERFUL, truly gifted teacher who had a great sense of humor and a knack for really connecting with his students. I’ve never forgotten what a great teacher he was….
P.S. The blonde girl with the white shirt standing in front of Mrs. B was Sally Harter, I think.
